Milestones & Goals

The Chamber has an economic development plan for our district which provides direction and keeps us focused on our goals. The plan identified what the Stanthorpe business community could look like in future, and what would need to be implemented for this to eventuate.  This involves strong partnerships with key organisations particularly the Southern Downs Regional Council, strong leadership and advocacy from the Stanthorpe Chamber of Commerce and the agreement by the community of what can be achieved in a unique region such as the Granite Belt.

Key milestones reached were:

  • A formal working relationship with the Southern Downs Regional Council. We are currently completing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Council which will clearly state mutual expectations and will be the basis of working meetings with Council officers.

  • A close working relationship with our State Member Lawrence Springborg.

  • A close working relationship with our Federal member David Littleproud. David has agreed that our Chamber will be a conduit for him to the businesses of our district.

  • Formation of three working committees –

               1.  Economic Development Committee

               2.  Membership, Training and Development

               3.  Events and promotions

Significant achievements have included:

  • Initiating the Snowflakes in Stanthorpe Inc. event in 2016. Produced a significant economic input to our region.

  • Shop Local campaign “Stanthorpe First” and the shopping precinct Christmas Promotion. Ongoing program aimed at increasing local spend and promoting a vibrant shopping precinct.

  • The Heritage Bank 2017 Business Excellence Awards.
